Langston Hughes was born on February 1st 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. When he was just a small boy, Langston's parents got a divorce and his dad moved to Mexico. He had lived with his grandmother in Illinois (Also the same place he started writing) before moving to live with his parents in Ohio. After graduation, Langston had jobs like, assistant cook, and busboy. His first poetry book was published in 1926. He graduated from Lincoln University in 1929. His first novel won the Harmon gold medal for literature.
